Claudia was born in Peru and lived in Lima until she was 21. She then moved to Italy to study in Rome for 11 years before moving to Dartmoor in Devon in 2013 to live with her husband who grew up there. As a child she was bilingual since she went to an English school in Lima, and also lived in Surrey for a year with her family when she was seven. She taught languages whilst studying in Rome and now she teaches languages full time in a language academy. Claudia speaks Spanish, English, Italian, a bit of French and German and is learning Quechuan (an indigenous Peruvian language). Being an opera singer has allowed her to frequently travel back to Italy to sing and visit her family. She also returns to Peru at least once a year to visit her family in Lima. Claudia brought two things for her memory objects, firstly a quilt that was hand-made by her mother when they were living in Surrey. She chose this because it reminds her of her family, and the vibrant colours bring back memories of Peru. She also brought a photo from her wedding day, which she chose because it reminded her of that very special day which links her to Devon where she was married. They had a multi-cultural wedding with fish and chips, as well as Peruvian food brought over by her parents. The subtitling of the interview starts after approximately 12 minutes, so that the majority of the later questions could be included, these questions were also more related to the theme of identity and migration.
